SC issues notice to N Srinivasan, Shah for participating in the BCCI meet

The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to former BCCI boss N Srinivasan and Niranjan Shah, asking how the two could be representatives of state cricket bodies if they have been disqualified as the top cricketing body’s office-bearers.
This comes after the SC appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) in a scathing status report, described the duo of Srinivasan and Shah as "disqualified office bearers with vested interest", who are trying to stall implementation of Lodha reforms.
"How can a person disqualified by virtue of apex court order be nominated as nominee of state cricket associations and attend the meeting of BCCI," a bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra said.
Both Srinivasan and Shah were disqualified from becoming the office bearers of BCCI or state cricket bodies as they fell under the category of debarment for either having conflict of interest or attaining the age of 70 years, as per Justice R M Lodha led panel recommendation which were accepted by the apex court.
The bench said it will decide the matter on the next date of the hearing and sought the replies from Srinivasan and Shah on the objections raised by CoA in their report.

Both Srinivasan and Shah sat in the SGM as nominees of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and Saurashtra Cricket Association respectively.

The Supreme Court on Thursday gave the duo time till July 24 to respond to the notice. The apex court further said that it will examine if office bearers, otherwise disqualified, can participate in BCCI affairs through other routes.

The apex court also accepted the unconditional and unequivocal apology tendered by another former BCCI chief Anurag Thakur after he appeared in person. The bench dropped the contempt proceedings against Thakur.

The court also relieved noted historian Ramchandra Guha and banker Vikram Limaye from the CoA after they tendered their resignation expressing inability to continue as administrators in the BCCI.
