Why Shivraj Chouhan found Madhya Pradesh roads are better than roads in Washington, DC?

WASHINGTON, DC: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was mocked around the world last year when he made cops carry him on their shoulders instead of walking through ankle deep water, told audiences in the United States that roads in MP were better than those in US.

"When I got down at the Washington Airport and travelled on the road, I felt the roads in Madhya Pradesh are better than the United States... I am saying this not just for the sake of saying,” Chouhan told potential investors at an event organised by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum in Washington DC on October 24.

Chouhan, keen to underline his claim that MP was emerging as an ideal state for investments, seems to have walked into a storm of twitter creativity with his rather bold claim. Last time he glided smoothly over the flood waters by riding on actual human beings, he had fallen into a well of ridicule, but seems to have learnt little.

A rather veteran BJP leader in Madhya Pradesh, who is currently out of favour with the powers that be, said the ruling party needs to come out of its habit of using bluster incessantly.

 -----------
The problem with normalising bluster as straight-faced political stance is that rulers often actually start believing it. It is possible that Chouhan actually believes what he says.

"The problem with normalising bluster as straight-faced political stance is that rulers often actually start believing it. It is possible that Chouhan actually believes what he says, and often I feel that the Prime Minister also now actually believes that Demonetisation was a great success and GST was being implemented smoothly," he said.

Another small time BJP leader better aware of the condition of roads in MP said it was understandable why someone like Chouhan would compare the state's roads better than the roads in the US, that too with a specific comparison with roads around Washington's Dulles Airport.
---------
Travelling in bullet proof vehicles, the journey marked by constant supply of dry fruit and fresh fruit juice, the condition of the roads is never an issue. In the US, the politician sees other people and vehicles along the same roads that his vehicle traverses and it hardly pleases him.

"The fact is that when a CM has to visit a place, even if a remote village, the roads are smoothened days in advance, often very temporarily, and no traffic allowed for hours. Not a single human being can cross the road as security personnel line the entire stretches for hours. Travelling in bullet proof vehicles, the journey marked by constant supply of dry fruit and fresh fruit juice, the condition of the roads is never an issue. In the US, the politician sees other people and vehicles along the same roads that his vehicle traverses and it hardly pleases him. Hence the deduction: 'My roads are far better than the roads in the US.' In a strange matter-of-fact way, he is right," he said.

An Indian TV journalist was sacked in 2013 after he filed a report about deadly floods while perched on a survivor’s shoulders. Chouhan faced no such threat, and now by snubbing the Satan right in Washington, he might actually be a hero of the party, a pothole or two notwithstanding.
