Parikarma & Jarnaili Sadak: A Walk in the Clouds

Parading at Sri Darbar Sahib, not folding hands even inside the sanctum sanctorum, shaking hands at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. What is these leaders' understanding about Punjab, about our culture, about religion, about sensitivity?

TOP LEADERSHIP OF AAM AADMI PARTY was at the Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, on Thursday, March 5, 2020, with the prime purpose of peering into the cameras and getting themselves photographed for guaranteed publication in newspapers.

Greetings, and peering into camera, staring from the corner of eyes

Why have we allowed politicians of all hues to make such perfunctory visits with clearly political motives? Which part of these pictures can escape even a casual reader's common sense understanding?

They are either looking at each other, as if they are measuring each other up for the upcoming intra-party squabbles, or they are gazing into the camera, knowing that the great resplendent shrine in the background is their guarantee for successful photo-op.

Chest puffed, left-right left-right

Watch them in the parkarma, chest puffed up, arms in military style parade. Is this how the devout do parikarma? Whatever happened to hands folded, walking with your head bowed, gurbani on your lips? "Oh yes, oh sab ta purane gurmukh lok karde hun. Jathedar Bhagwant Singh Mann da apna style hai jee. Naale bhaven sungh ke vekh lavo, peeti vee nahi hoyee. Hor ki chaheeda hai?"

These AAP leaders should understand that Punjabis have already felt betrayed by their political leadership in Delhi. They had some hope of the Punjab leadership, but the antics and non-seriousness of clowns like Bhagwant Mann has left a bad taste.

The party still has to explain why was Sucha Singh Chottepur removed? It still has to explain why is the party so Delhi-centric?

It still has to explain how its leaders will face the people of Punjab to explain that they have been praising the same leader who begged for forgiveness and submitted an unqualified apology to Bikramjit Singh Majithia. It still has to explain how bad was a politician like Dharamvir Gandhi that he could not find any place in the party. And the party leaders in Punjab are alright with his suspension continuing for years? And its MLAs keep resigning and taking back their resignations making a mockery of the electoral system?

It has to explain who all fought to really start a political movement in Punjab? It has to explain its total absence from Punjab's politics between elections.

Coming to Punjab like an aggressive election fighting machine just because you know that people of Punjab are very angry with the mainstream political parties like Akali Dal and Congress is to play havoc with the sensitivities of Punjabis.

You do not even know how to go Sri Darbar Sahib, how to behave when cameras are whirring all around you, how to bow before the Guru, how to walk in public, how to greet each other when inside a holy shrine and cameras are watching. How do we know how you will behave when simple people come to you with a problem?

Hands folded for camera, back towards the Guru

By the way, when is Jarnail Singh going to the Shaheen Bagh morchas in Mansa or Ludhiana? Will Bhagwant Mann be joining the international women day event at Chandigarh's Sector 17 on March 8? Will he be delivering his party's stance speech from the stage in Malerkotla? Did he go to Bhajanpura and Khajoori Khas to see the streets where Sikhs were killed in 1984 and Muslims in 2020?

And what are their views about Arvind Kejriwal's high praise for Delhi Police and for PM Narendra Modi in the aftermath of Delhi 2020 Jafrabad-Bhajanpura-Shiv Vihar killings?

Or do people of Punjab deserve to ask no questions and be condemned to seek no answers because Amarinder Singh and Sukhbir Singh Badal are so bad and Bhagwant Mann has stopped drinking liquor in public, at least most of the time?

Learn to walk. Dare to talk. And get a lesson in how to go to a gurdwara or a temple. Mosque to aap ki jaane ki himmat hee nahi,
