The way Sukhbir Singh Badal and his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal, brazenly monopolize and hijacking the entire narrative of observing the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, it’s not in conformity with the Sikh tradition, it rather sounds domineering and against the basic philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev ji.
It agonizingly look like, more of a feudatory order which does not manifest the conventional congruency of the Sikh community. Their egotistical and abysmal activities are not only over casting a shadow on the role of SGPC; they also seem to be bypassing the authority of Sri Akal Takhat.
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal announced on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would preside over the function to mark the 550th birth celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev at Sultanpur Lodhi on November 9.
If the announcement made by Sukhbir Badal is to be believed, that obviously entail that there would be no ‘Parkash’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib on this commemorative occasion, if so, than what kind of ‘Gurpurab’, Guru’s Birth Anniversary that would be? No Sikh of any hue could ever perceive removing the holy presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib; just to decipher some political gains out of the entire narrative.
The over ambitious and invidious Badal couple must bear in mind that it’s the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, not a political rally of the SAD-BJP alliance.
How could you just envision any function, dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, without the Holy presence of ‘Shabad Guru’, Guru Granth Sahib ji and then in the divine presence of Guru Granth Sahib ji, no individual could preside over any function, whatever be his or her status.
Therefore Sukhbir Badal and his wife Harsimrat Badal must stop the weird overdoing just to hog headlines in the media by politicizing every opportunity, corresponding with the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji
. Let the SGPC and Sikh religious Heads perform their respective duties and roles independently and they both (SuKhbir and Harsimrat) as humble Sikhs may do their ‘Sewa
’ away from the galore focuses of the Media cameras.
After the above noted absurd announcement made by Sukhbir Badal it has become a profound necessity and top most responsibility of Sri Akal Takhat and the SGPC, to clarify to the entire Sikh community, in no uncertain terms as to who will preside the main religious function to be held at Sultanpur Lodhi to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji? The over ambitious and invidious Badal couple must bear in mind that it’s the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev not a political rally of the SAD-BJP alliance.
