Sukhbir Singh Badal today asked Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to direct the Police Department to curb incidents of political vendetta with a heavy hand immediately.
In a statement here, Badal said soon after the poll results two persons were killed and one was injured during a clash between two truck unions owing allegiance to the SAD and the Congress in Baretta town of Mansa. He said two days back senior Akali worker Gurbachan Singh Khalsa was murdered by Congress activist Col (retd) Surjit Singh in Ferochichi village in Amritsar.
Suhbir said it was unfortunate that the murder of the Akali worker took place despite the fact that he had complained to the district police about threats being received from Col Surjit Singh. He said the Congress activist had been routinely using a loud speaker to spew venom against Khalsa as well as the SAD immediately after the declaration of results on March 11.
The SAD President said it was condemnable that the district police had failed to take action against the culprits till now and had made no headway in the case. "Strict instructions should be issued to the State police to nip such cases of political vendetta in the bud lest it lead to a serious law and order problem”, Jr Badal said.
The Akali leader said such cases would also hamper the State’s development story. "Capt Amarinder Singh has assured to focus on development as was done by us. Punjabi's also expect the same. Any attempt to vitiate the atmosphere in the State by resorting to political vendetta will not be tolerated by Punjabi's who want the new government to start working immediately to deliver on the promises made to the people”, he added.
