Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called up Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh to congratulate him on his party’s landslide victory in the state assembly elections.
Modi spoke to Captain Amarinder on telephone to convey his regards and extend his government’s full support for the development of Punjab. The prime minister told the PPCC president, under whose leadership the Congress has recorded a sweeping victory in the state, that the central government would do its best to ensure that Punjab’s development agenda is on track and the state progresses under the stewardship of Amarinder.
Earlier, talking to mediapersons after the stupendous Congress victory, Captain Amarinder had expressed the hope that the Modi government would work with the state government to bring about the much-needed development in the state.
Congress is leading on 75 seats, AAP on 23 seats and SAD-BJP alliance limping behind at 17 seats .
Earlier Prakash Singh Badal also congratulated Amarinder Singh and extended support to him.
Modi also wished Amarinder on his 75th birthday which falls today. The Congress leader was born on this day in 1942 in Patiala in Punjab.
