After the success of its twin web news portals, punjabtoday.in and punjabtoday.net, the Punjab Today group has re-launched the print edition of its weekly newsmag, Punjab Today, deferring to insistent demand of the readers.
In keeping with the eclectic and egalitarian traditions of Punjab Today, the honour of unwrapping and releasing the first copy of the newsmag was claimed by printing machine operator Arvind Kumar, as ministers, former ministers, MLAs, chairmen of several government bodies, bureaucrats, industrialists, journalists, businessmen, social activists, professionals and political leaders from different parties present at the ceremony cheered the launch.
At the simple yet impressive ceremony at Punjab Today Bhawan here, Surjit Singh Rakhra, Punjab's Minister of Higher Education and Languages, described the newsmag as a good initiative, and specially appreciated the focus on environment in the inaugural issue as timely and significant.
Congress MLA Maharani Preneet Kaur, formerly the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, appreciated the newsmag and hailed it for its ability to connect with the youth, thanks to its deeply analytical content.
Brahm Mahindra, MLA from Patiala Rural, pinned high hopes on the print edition after the success of the websites.
Bir Devinder Singh, former deputy speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, praised the newsmag as an excellent project saying it must carve out a special role for itself at a time when media is losing sight of most relevant issues and trivialisation was masquerading as mainstream.
CA Ranjit Bhambri welcomed the guests and CA Anil Arora proposed a vote of thanks.
Also present on this occasion were many other prominent personalities including Inder Mohan Singh Bajaj, President, Shiromani Akali Dal Distt. Patiala Urban, Surjit Singh Ablowal, Chairman of the Punjab Tourism Development Corporation, Vishnu Sharma, Chairman, Patiala Improvement Trust, Manjit Singh Narang IAS, Harvinder Singh Khalsa, Vice-Chairman, Sanjeev Bittu, leader of opposition Municipal Corporation, Patiala, CA Navdeep Singh Chaudhary, CA Harish Malhotra, J M Singh, Gurvinder Singh Shaktiman, Narinder Singh Khurana and Kulwinder Singh Lovely.
