EXHORTING BJP LEADERS to speak up within the party, former Union Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha has said the Modi government has lost its way and voters' confidence, scamsters are fleeing India, rapes have become the order of the day, democratic institutions stand demeaned and denigrated and Parliament has been reduced to a joke.
"Speak up and save democracy and the country," Yashwant Sinha said in a hard-hitting letter to his party colleagues, published in a national daily Tuesday.
If you remain silent now you will do a great disservice to the country. Future generations are unlikely to forgive you – Yashwant Sinha to BJP MPs
"Speak up in the national interest...express your opinion frankly before the bosses on all issues confronting us. If you remain silent now you will do a great disservice to the country. Future generations are unlikely to forgive you," Sinha, who of late has been critical of Narendra Modi-Amit Shah style of running the BJP and the government, said in his open letter, published by the Indian Express.
He particularly beseeched BJP veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi "to take a stand in the national interest" and reminded everyone in the BJP that "we all worked very hard for the victory of the party in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections" even as "some others were enjoying the fruits of office in their respective states."
Clearly, he was alluding to Narendra Modi enjoying spoils of power in Gujarat at that time.
Sinha said the "economic situation is grim, despite tall claims to the contrary...corruption has raised its ugly head again and banking scams are tumbling out of the closet one after another."
Referring to the recent horrific incidents in Kathua and Unnao, Sinha said, "Women are more unsafe today than ever before. Rapes have become the order of the day and instead of acting strictly against the rapists we have become their apologists."
Narendra Modi's foreign policy seems to consist of "frequent foreign visits" and "hugging foreign dignitaries, whether they like it or not."

He also conceded that in India, "minorities are alienated" even as "weaker sections of our society have been exposed to atrocities and inequities as never."
He said Modi's foreign policy seems to consist of "frequent foreign visits" and "hugging foreign dignitaries, whether they like it or not."
Sinha, himself a victim of lack of internal democracy in the party, said even BJP MPs can no more air their views. "The prime minister has no time for you," Sinha wrote.
He also slammed Modi and top party leadership for not doing much to ensure that the Parliament functions, and said the faultlines within the top judiciary show "the rot that has been allowed to afflict the highest judicial institution."
Stating some cold logic facts for the BJP's leaders, particularly MPs, Sinha said, "I do not know how many of you will get the ticket for the next Lok Sabha elections but if previous experience is any guide, half of you at least will not. The chances of your winning the election, even if you get the ticket are fairly remote."
In the last Lok Sabha election the BJP had secured only 31 per cent votes; 69 per cent was polled against it. So, if the opposition unites, you will be nowhere....Speak up and save democracy and the country – Yashwant Sinha to BJP MPs
