Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists have been killed in an encounter with the security forces at Sopore, in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday. During the encounter, a police jawan was also injured, but he is stable.
The encounter broke out while security personnel were conducting searches in Amargarh area of Sopore after they had received information about militants in the area.
"The terrorists were killed in Amargarh area of Sopore in an encounter with police, army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)," police spokesman Manoj Pandita told IANS.
"Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the slain terrorists. The exact identity of the terrorists is being established." he said.
"One police constable was injured during the encounter. He was shifted to hospital where doctors have described his condition as stable," he added.
According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, all government and private schools and colleges in Sopore are closed today post encounter.
The internet services have also been snapped in North Kashmir's Baramulla District.
Earlier in the day, a joint cordon and search operation (CASO) was being conducted by the security forces.
A joint operation was conducted by 179 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 52 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police since 04:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
The incident came days after top LeT terrorist Abu Dujana, a Pakistani national wanted in connection with several terror attacks, and his aide were gunned down by the security forces in an encounter in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.
