KHADOOR SAHIB - TO BECOME THE CYNOSURE OF PANJAB
13.03.19 - AMANDEEP SANDHU

WHATEVER HAPPENS in India in the 2019 elections, an unlikely constituency - Khadoor Sahib - is slated to become the cynosure of Panjab. In Khadoor Sahib a democratic electoral process has pitted two radically different Sikh ideologies against each other.

The town Sultanpur Lodhi, associated with Guru Nanak, is located in the Khadoor Sahib constituency. In 1475 AD the elder sister of Guru Nanak, Bibi Nanki was married to Shri Jai Ram of Sultanpur Lodhi. In 1483 Guru’s father sent Guru Nanak to the custody of Shri Jai Ram. Guru Nanak was employed as the in-charge of the civil supplies store. In June 1488, Guru Nanak married Bibi Sulkhani and begot two sons Shri Chand and Lakmi Chand in this town. In those years and later Guru Nanak also spent 14 years, 9 months and 13 days meditating under a Jujube (Ber) tree next to the rivulet Kali Bein. In 1497 ...

Amarinder govt’s love for farmers, and my dad's for his scooter
LOAN WAIVER FUNCTION II – MARCH 14 WILL BE REPEAT OF MANSA MESS-UP
08.03.18 - Nischay Pal

4.6 per cent. Four point six per cent. That's the mathematically-derived score achieved by the Punjab Government after one year of working hard to ameliorate the lot of the farmers.

On the floor of the Assembly, CM Amarinder Singh announced a limited, conditional farm loan waiver that was to cover 10.22 lakh farmers. So far, about 46,000 have been covered as per the government's own claims. It had even held a massive function in Mansa to showcase its grand achievement.

Now, it is holding yet another major loan waiver event in Doaba, and you must feel free to add that percentage to its annual score.

The Punjab Government, which won the hearts of the farmers of Punjab by holding a massive state function with taxpayers' money and gave farmers 6 feet x 3 feet IPL style certificates of loan waiver in Mansa in January, will now do the same for more farmers on ...

Punjab is still very far from India
04.03.18 - Amandeep Sandhu

A WEEK HAS PASSED since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his team including Sikh ministers came and left India. Through the visit, I watched with rising dismay, how a diplomatic disaster unfolded between two friendly countries because of one word – Khalistan. My dismay was not at the powers that be, we know them. My dismay was towards how people like me,  the liberals - committed to make democracy work, pursue justice, oppose the growing jingoistic saffronization of our nation - had behaved.
--------
These days the liberals battle for Najeeb. Per a recent report, Punjab has 8257 Najeebs, or Singhs, or Kumars - the kind of enforced disappearances and killings going on right now Uttar Pradesh and earlier in Gujarat. The liberals battle for Judge Loya. Do they forget Advocate Khalra?
---------
In 2013, at the Bangalore Literature Festival, in a panel discussion on The Gujarat Model: Is economic development a garb ...

'Amarinder must revisit his egotistical stance on Sajjan'
15.04.17 - Bir Devinder Singh*

I WOULD wish to plead with Capt. Amarinder Singh CM of Punjab that personal prejudices must be kept aside while addressing bigger issues concerning the community and the Nation. Canada enjoys very special status among the comity of Nations, which have made tremendous contribution to accommodate Punjabi Diasporas suitably and honorably as the host country.

Every single family of Punjab is connected with its family members, relations and friends settled in Canada or are in a process to settle in Canada. Canada being multicultural, multiethnic and multilingual country of Commonwealth has provided huge occupational opportunities to the Punjabi's in terms of business and gainful employment.

Therefore I would wish that Amarinder Singh as CM of Punjab should address this delicate issue differently in the larger interest of Punjab. The exalted positions occupied by Punjabi's and the Sikhs in the council of Minister led by Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister has ...
