A suspicious bag found inside an Amritsar-bound SpiceJet flight on Thursday created a security scare, forcing authorities at the Amritsar airport to press a bomb disposal squad to asses the danger. All passengers were de-boarded safely.
SpiceJet, in a statement, clarified that the bag belonged to a passenger who cleared immigration and security check in Dubai, but failed to report for boarding. Dubai officials informed the pilot in Command about the unaccompanied luggage, said SpiceJet. As per protocol, the pilot requested the Amritsar Air Traffic Control officials for parking the plane at an isolated bay.
"The false alarm due to the miscommunication caused inconvenience to the passengers, which is deeply regretted,” said SpiceJet.
After landing, the aircraft was taken off the runway and parked in an isolated spot for search operations, according to news agency IANS. Flight operations were breifly suspended at the airport following the incident.
SpiceJet Flight 56, which departed from Dubai at 4.05 am, arrived today morning at 8.51 am in Amritsar. SpiceJet first launched direct flights to Dubai in October 2015. The flight carrier connects eight cities to Dubai, including connecting flights from a dozen more cities.
