The Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today described the demise of celebrated playwright Tony Batish as a huge loss to the world of art, literature and culture in contemporary Punjab.

The chief minister paid glowing tributes to Batish saying he defied ill health for a long time to remain actively engaged in theatre, experimenting with new ideas and updating and refining existing forms of Punjabi drama.
In a message to the bereaved family, Badal said that Batish’s involvement with children theatre showed just how artists and writers can function not only as conscience keepers of the future generations but also nurture them in a way that they hold aloft the flag of Punjabi language and literature across the world.
